Share the excitement of your company and your industry with local students and educators through the Iowa Intermediary Network. Ignite imaginations while being protected from liability and receiving professional guidance for both you and the student. You might introduce your company to a future employee, and you are sure to strengthen local economic development by showing students they can work close to home and still have a fulfilling career.
SHARE THE EXCITEMENT
It doesn’t have to be a big commitment. Work-based learning opportunities can be as short and easy as speaking to students in a classroom setting. More extensive experiences include job shadows, worksite tours, student internships, educator externships, and other enhanced learning activities.
GET CONNECTED
Business and industry partners continue to grow with just over 4,436 business partners in FY20. These partners took on a variety of roles, including hosting students on internships and job shadows, speaking to classes, offering students interactive opportunities at career events, and providing company tours. Many partners also participated in career fairs and became members of advisory councils.
David Clark, P.E., a Mechanical Engineer at West Plains Engineering, a valued WLC partner for over eight years, explains the value of hosting these types of internships, “Providing internships through Workplace Learning Connection has been a great experience. You get to introduce the future of the workforce to your company and industry. Every time you teach others you have the opportunity to learn and build your own understanding as well.”
